About Ikeda
In 2006, the town of Ikeda merged with five other municipalities to form Miyoshi City,
with a population of approximately 30,000 and an area of about 720 square kilometers — the largest in Shikoku.
This vast area is home to abundant nature and scenic beauty.
Ikeda: The Navel of Shikoku
Ikeda-cho sits at the geographic center of Shikoku, bordering all four prefectures, earning it the nickname "the Navel of Shikoku."
The town features many places named after this heritage, including Hessoko Park, Hessoko Plaza, and the Hessoko Bridge.
In 2003, the Tokushima Expressway (Ikawa-Ikeda IC to Kawanoe-Higashi JCT) opened,
connecting all four prefectural capitals of Shikoku by highway within three hours.
From Ikeda, three capitals are reachable within one hour, and the fourth within 90 minutes.
The surrounding area boasts magnificent mountain scenery steeped in Heike legends, the gorge beauty of Oboke-Koboke,
and has become a hub for outdoor sports including mountain climbing, skiing, rafting, canoeing, canyoning, paragliding, and motor racing.
